How to schedule a photoshoot

Please introduce yourself as an OCUS photographer or videographer for World's Best Bars.

Leave a message if the contact does not pick up the phone and send an email. Look at the description of the mission to make sure you put the contacts in a copy of your email if any is specified.

If you are scheduling for the first time and are not sure of the correct process, please check the instructions here to ensure that you follow the correct protocol with the business owner.

By accepting this assignment, you will be representing OCUS in the eyes of our client. We count on you to demonstrate a high level of professionalism in your coming interactions.


Assignments are not all the same. Please go to OCUS platform and verify the imagery you need to deliver.

PHOTOSHOOT OVERVIEW

Your videos should highlight these elements:

  1. The greeting

  2. The highlights of the bar

  3. The performance of the Bartender

  4. The Focus on the cocktails (Capture 2 different cocktails)


You are invited to take several videos from 30 to 50 seconds each one (minimum 4). which will be edited to obtain a video of 30 to 50 seconds in Youtube format

  • Ratio: 16: 9

  • Resolution: 1920x1080px 50Fps (minimum)


A second video will be edited (cropped) in another ratio for social media

  • Ratio: 9x16

  • Résolution 1080x1920px 25Fps

So your subject has to be focus and in the center of the framing


> So, you can capture in 1920x1080px minimum or 3840x2160px at 50 fps minimum <

FRAMING

DO

  • Capture landscape for 16/9 video traditional video

  • Center your subject at the center

  • Use stability gears (Stabilizer or Gimbal)

  • Dynamic shots using zoom / de-zoom or traveling when capturing

  • Be everywhere around the subject (front, back, left & right, up-angle)

  • Ask the bartender to remove his/her watch during the shooting

  • Have a look to the linked YouTube channel to get some inspiration


DON'T

  • Don't use a tripod

  • Don't make static shots

  • Keep the bar table clean

  • avoid accumulating bottles ostensibly close to the cocktail glass (keep it natural)

  • Avoid messy areas

  • No trash in the frame

LIGHTING

DO

  • The light has to be soft and NOT turned towards the bartender

  • Use the natural light

    • If shooting during the night, use the place's light

  • Use light to only highlight the cocktail

DON'T

  • Do not expose the bartender with light

DO AND DON'T

DO

  • Place your focus on the action

  • The actions of people (customers, bartenders) must be elegant and natural. Put yourself in the position so the movement could be best presented while you are filming

  • In the "Greeting" shot, capture at a wide-angle to see the whole bar

  • Make sure you have movement in the frame when shooting

  • Landscape format

  • Adapt the ISO according to the environment.

  • Use a stabilizer and activate all the stabilization features on your camera

  • Capture in UHD (3840x2160p) or FullHD (1920x1080px)


DON'T

  • Avoid under-bocks/Glass coasters of competing brands on the framing.

  • Do not use a smartphone for the video shootings

  • Do not mix cameras of different type during the shooting

  • Do not capture in 720p (1280x720p)

  • Do not use color profiles (Log Picture)

  • Avoid duplicates. Try to capture different areas

  • Be careful not to capture disruptive elements (garbage cans, unsightly areas, ...)

1. Youtube Video | The greeting

-> Those shots will be used for video introduction

We used the greeting shots to create the title of the video


You need to capture 4 shots minimum, from 30 to 50 seconds.


DO

  • Follow a person who enters the bar, settles down, and/or interacts with the bartenders

    • It can be you, or someone from the hotel, or even the bartender

  • Stay close to the person entering (see example)

  • Walk behind the subject with the stabilizer

  • Capture the atmosphere of the entrance of that place


DON'T

  • Do not capture static shots

  • Do not use tripod


2. The highlights of the bar

-> those shots will be uses as B-roll/filler shot during editing We use those to add atmosphere details in the edited video. Those will help us to make the viewers want to discover the place in addition to the cocktail


You need to capture 4 shots minimum, from 30 to 50 seconds.

DO

  • do some pan shoots on the highlights of the bar decoration

  • you can capture light on the bottle with close up shots

  • capture the bottle racks

  • capture the bar table with bottles, glass on it

  • Capture the "life" in the place

DON'T

  • Do not restrict yourself to the bar table only

    • the bar is the place

  • Do not capture static shots

  • Do not use tripod

3. The performance of the bartender

-> Those shots will be use as the main video materials for editing

Those shots needs to focus on the bartender gestures during the creation of 2 distinct cocktails. It will highlight the professionalism as well as the style of the bartender in the creative performance

No need to see the face on all shots: it's the hands, the bottles, the ingredients and the accessories that are important.


You need to capture 8 shots minimum per cocktail, from 20 to 40 seconds.


DO

  • Follow the bartender in the creation of 2 cocktails and do close up shots

  • You can capture from the front, back and sides of the bar

  • capture the bartender hand gestures

  • capture the cocktails / glass details

  • capture the bar table point of view

  • capture the light on bottles (the bubbles that fizz for example)


If you are in a Mariott hotel

Capture 1 cocktail for the "secret gin society" partnership (use only gin from the following brands: Beefeater, Beefeater 24, Plymouth, Monkey 47, Malfy)

+ An extra cocktail


If you are in a Hilton hotel

Capture the bar's signature cocktail, focusing on the bartender's cocktail skills & gestures

+ An extra cocktail


DON'T

  • The bartender needs to remove his/her watch before shooting

  • Do not expose the bartender with light

  • Do not capture static shots

  • Do not use tripod

4. Focus on the cocktail

-> Those shots will be use for the end of the video

We use them to highlight and create the desire to drink the cocktail

It's the presentation of the cocktail (s) on the table and/or on the waiter's board


You need to capture 4 shots minimum, from 30 to 50 seconds.


DO

  • Capture the ceremony of cocktail's service

  • Capture the moment when the bartender puts the glass on the bar

  • Capture the cocktail's glass only

  • Capture the cocktail's glass with accessories (if needed)

  • Use dynamic shots (zoom/dezoom) & travellings

  • Capture from an up-angle


DON'T

  • Do not capture horizontal shots

  • Do not capture static shots

  • Do not use tripod

DELIVERY

Upload your videos on OCUS Filemail


To ensure consistency, OCUS is handling the post-production internally. Please respect the following requirements to make sure that we can deliver the best outcome to our client.


  • Don’t edit any of your rushes (no crop, no edit)

  • Don’t erase your metadata

  • Select your best rushes and don't send more files than required

  • Follow the naming convention below (take some notes during the video shoot to keep all the needed information)


Videotype_Number.mp4 Example: Greeting_1.mp4 Hightlight_1.mp4 Hightlight_2.mp4 ...

For the video rush deposit, you can send us the files separately or as an “End-to-end” (merged in 1 file)

Accepted video formats:

  • MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 encapsulated in a .mp4 or .mov file

  • ProRes 422 LT encapsulated in a .mov file (Any other format or container will not be supported)

  • Upload your files in the correct category

  • Don’t forget to validate your assignment after uploading your files
